HSA Junior Rifle Club

Each year youngsters from Holliston, and surrounding communities participate in the Junior Rifle Club. Here they learn the rules for safely handling firearms, and practice four position smallbore marksmanship skills.

Precision shooting sports provide the young athlete with a unique opportunity to develop:

Qualification Shooting
After learning the basics of safe firearm handling in a classroom setting, junior shooters begin practicing what they have learned while working on marksmanship proficiency. By firing targets with a minimum required score youngsters move through the N.R.A. Smallbore Rifle Four Position Qualification Ratings from Pro-Marksman to Distinguished Expert. At the end of each season the Juniors enjoy an Awards Night and Pizza Party. At the Awards Night the H.S.A. provides Certificates of Achievement, embroidered patches, and medals to recognize the young athlete's accomplishments in the Qualification Program.

The Schedule
The Junior Rifle Club meets once each week beginning in late September, or early October. The season concludes in April. Meetings are on Thursday evening from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. There are no meetings on school holidays, or vacation weeks. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, rifle club is also cancelled. If a youngster misses school due to illness they should not attend the Junior Club meeting that night.

Notice to Parents
You are expected to help. There are many tasks associated with running a safe, and successful Junior Rifle Program. Instructors, range officers, and coaches are focused on the firing line. Behind the line activities will fall to our staff. Our staff is you the parents of the young athletes. In addition to supervising the youngsters that are not actively shooting, we need adults to control the distribution of ammunition, score targets, log scores into qualification records, and so forth. Your participation will be appreciated by those running the program, and more importantly, by the youngsters.
